Frequently Asked Questions
CONVERSATION COACHING
Is this therapy?
I am not a therapist. My sessions are not about identifying/treating mental health or emotional disorders, but giving dedicated time and space to practice speaking itself.
Conversation coaching should never be a substitute for clinic therapy, but it often serves as a good supplemental exercise in addition to clinical therapy sessions.
How are sessions conducted?
Everyone’s using Zoom these days, so either that or Google Meets. I have some clients who are camera shy, so they’ll have their video off but they want mine up.
Some clients really struggle with communicating through the phone, so they want sessions to be done through that medium in order to get more practice.
What’s the structure like?
This part really depends on you. We need to figure out where you’re coming from and what you really need (vs. what you think you might need).
But don’t expect an academic lesson where I give you lots of theory that might make sense someday.
Let’s figure out what was the most recent and relevant speaking hiccup, and then we’ll talk through that.
Tools and exercises are given as needed, not the other way around.
How many sessions do I need?
Again, this really depends on the person. There’s no magic “3 Sessions and You Can Make Friends!” type of setup, even though that might be kind of cool.
As we work through sessions, you’ll get a feel of how much accountability and checking in you need.
Some people are self-sufficient and only need a few to get going. Then, they check in sporadically throughout the year.
Others will want lots of support, and that’s okay too.
Another consideration is to take into account how much time can you really dedicate when you’re working a full-time job and trying to do other stuff in your personal life.
Is there homework?
I’ll remind you to stay on top of your voice journals, but outside of that no.
No tests. No scores. No grading scale.
Don’t lock yourself into that academic bubble.
Will this help my dating life?
Conversation coaching can improve the quality of relationships by enabling you to be more expressive and responsive.
If you’re looking for magic words to make someone fall in love with you, this ain’t it, chief.
